Praise be to Allaah, the Ever-Living, Who does not die, although mankind and jinn die, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allaah, concerning whom Allaah said (interpretation of the meaning):
“Verily, you [O Muhammad] will die, and verily, they (too) will die.” [al-Zumar 39:30]
Praise be to Allaah, Who is the only One Whom we praise, even when adversity strikes. He determines the length of people’s lifetimes, and has decreed all things. Everything with Him is in due proportion, All-Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Most Great, the Most High. Whatsoever is on earth will perish, and the Face of our Lord, full of Majesty and Honour, will abide forever.
The honour of the scholars is great indeed. Their Lord has made them witnesses to the greatest of truths and has mentioned their testimony alongside His own and that of His angels. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

The young man and the physician
Al-Hasan al-Basri said, “One day I was walking with a young pious man in
the narrow streets of Basra and its markets until we reached a physician sitting
on a chair and around him were many men, women, and children who had
bottles of water in their hands. Each one of them was seeking a cure for his
illness. The young man moved closer to the physician and asked him, ‘O
physician! Do you have a medicine that cleans away sins and cures the [spiritual]
diseases of the heart? He replied ‘Yes!’ The young man said, ‘Give it to me!” The
physician said, “Take ten things from me – take the roots of the tree of poverty
with the roots of the tree of humility, and pour in it the milk of repentance, then
place it in the mortar of acceptance [of whatever is predestined for one], crush it
with the pestle of contentment, then place it in the pot of piety, pour over it the
water of shame, then boil it with the fire of love, then place it in the cup of
gratitude and cool it down with the fan of hope, then drink it with the spoon of
praise. If you do all of this then it will cure you of every illness and trial in this world and in the Hereafter.’”

Prophets(Peace be upon him) miracle, the crying of date palm
Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:
The Prophet (Peace be upon him)used to stand by a tree or a date-palm on Friday. Then an Ansari woman or man said. "O Allah's Apostle! Shall we make a pulpit for you?" He (Peace be upon him)replied, "If you wish." So they made a pulpit for him and when it was Friday, he proceeded towards the pulpit (for delivering the sermon). The date-palm cried like a child! The Prophet(Peace be upon him) descended (the pulpit) and embraced it while it continued moaning like a child being quietened. The Prophet(Peace be upon him) said, "It was crying for (missing) what it used to hear of religious knowledge given near to it."

Some Examples of Great People
By: Shaykh Abdullah bin Muhammad al-Mu`taz
There are many great men and women in history. They were rare examples of piety, morals, and the best qualities a human being can ever have.
Allah the Exalted has told us in the Holy Qur'an a lot about such men and women; on the top being the infallible Messenger Muhammad sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam and the other Messengers `alaihimus salaam who were great examples of patience, faith and Jihad in the way of Allah. They also fought the people of heresies and they were really the ideal people to be followed. Allah the Exalted described the morals and manners of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam as:
"And verily, you (o Muhammad) are on an exalted (standard of) character." (68:4)
Narrated Anas radiyallahu `anhu: "I have never touched a velvet or silk that was more tender than the hand of Allah's Messenger sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam and I have never smelt any perfume more nice than the smell of the Messenger's body. I served the Messenger ten years, he never said "of" (a puff of uneasiness) to me and he never asked me about something I had not done (why not?) and he never asked me about something I had ever done (why?)." (Bukhari and Muslim)
The caliph of the Messenger sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, Abu Bakr radiyallahu `anhu, supported the Messenger sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam by money and jihad by himself and was the first to believe the Prophet sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam. When some people apostated from Islam after the Prophet had died, Abu Bakr bravely stood up against them and said: (By Allah, if they refuse to pay - in zakat for Allah's sake) a goat (in another narration, a goat rope) they used to give to the Messenger sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam I will fight them.
Umar ibn al Khattab radiyallahu `anhu, though he was the Emir of the believers, used to carry flour on his back for Muslims and also used o cook for the orphans at night. The Satan used to run away from Umar's way, as reported (in hadeeth), because of his piety and closeness to Allah.
Uthman bin Affan radiyallahu `anhu, the third Caliph, financed a Muslim expedition that was called "The Expedition of a Hard Time", as Muslims were very poor at that time. And Ali bin Abi Talib radiyallahu `anhu, the fourth Caliph, was appointed by the Messenger sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam as a leader of Muslims in a war and he, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, said: "I will give the leadership to someone whom Allah and His Messenger love." That was Ali bin Abi Talib, radiyallahu `anhu, the great brave fighter.

The description of paradise
Ibn al-Qayyim said, in regards to the description of the Paradise and the delights that it contains:
"And if you ask about its ground and its soil, then it is of musk and saffron.
And if you ask about its roof, then it is the Throne of the Most Merciful.
And if you ask about its rocks, then they are pearls and jewels.
And if you ask about its buildings, then they are made of bricks of gold and silver.
And if you ask about its trees, then it does not contain a single tree except that its trunk is made of gold and silver.
And if you ask about its fruits, then they are softer than butter and sweeter than honey.
And if you ask about its leaves, then they are softer than the softest cloth.
And if you ask about its rivers, then there are rivers of milk who's taste does not change, and rivers of wine that is delicious to those who drink it, and rivers of honey that is pure, and rivers of water that is fresh.
And if you ask about their food, then it is fruits from whatever they will choose, and the meat of whatever birds they desire.
And if you ask about their drink, then it is Tasneem, ginger, and Kaafoor.
And if you ask about their drinking cups, then they are crystal-clear and made of gold and silver.
And if you ask about its shade, then a fast rider would ride in the shade of one of its trees for a hundred years and not escape it.
And if you ask about its vastness, then the lowest of its people would have within his kingdom and walls and palaces and gardens the distance that would be travelled in a thousand years.
And if you ask about its tents and encampments, then one tent is like a concealed pearl that is sixty miles long.
And if you ask about its towers, then they are rooms above rooms in buildings that have rivers running underneath them.
And if you ask about how far it reaches into the sky, then look at the shining star that is visible, as well as those that are far in the heavens that the eyesight cannot possibly reach.
And if you ask about the clothing of its inhabitants, then they are of silk and gold.
And if you ask about its beds, then its blankets are of the finest silk laid out in the highest of its levels.
And if you ask about the faces of its inhabitants and their beauty, then they are like the image of the Moon.
And if you ask about their age, then they are young ones of 33 years in the image of Adam, the father of humanity.
And if you ask about what they will be hearing, then it is the singing of their wives from among the Hoor al-'Ayn, and better than that are the voices of the Angels and the Prophets, and better than that is the Speech of the Lord of the Worlds.

Prophet (peace be upon him) invokes for rain
Narrated Sharik bin 'Abdullah bin Abi Namir:
I heard Anas bin Malik saying, "On a Friday a person entered the main Mosque through the gate facing the pulpit while Allah's Apostle was delivering the Khutba. The man stood in front of Allah's Apostle and said, 'O Allah's Apostle! The livestock are dying and the roads are cut off; so please pray to Allah for rain.' " Anas added, "Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) raised both his hands and said, 'O Allah! Bless us with rain! O Allah! Bless us with rain! O Allah! Bless us with rain!' " Anas added, "By Allah, we could not see any trace of cloud in the sky and there was no building or a house between us and (the mountains of) Sila." Anas added, "A heavy cloud like a shield appeared from behind it (i.e. Sila' Mountain). When it came in the middle of the sky, it spread and then rained." Anas further said, "By Allah! We could not see the sun for a week. Next Friday a person entered through the same gate and at that time Allah's Apostle was delivering the Friday's Khutba. The man stood in front of him and said, 'O Allah's Apostle! The livestock are dying and the roads are cut off, please pray to Allah to with-hold rain.' " Anas added, "Allah's Apostle I raised both his hands and said, 'O Allah! Round about us and not on us. O Allah! On the plateaus, on the mountains, on the hills, in the valleys and on the places where trees grow.' So the rain stopped and we came out walking in the sun." Sharik asked Anas whether it was the same person who had asked for the rain (the last Friday). Anas replied that he did not know.

Al-Miski (The One Who Exuded A Good Smell)
It is reported that Abu Bakr Al-Miski was once asked,“We always find a good odor emanating from you- why or how? He answered,
“By Allah, for years now I have not used any perfume, but the reason for the good smell has to do with an ordeal that I passed through;A woman once tricked me into entering her home. Then she closed (and locked) the door behind her, after which she began to seduce me. I became utterly bewildered as to what I should do, for I had no options before me. I said to her, ‘I need to go and purify myself.’ She ordered her servant to take me to the bathroom, and when I entered it, I took feaces in my hand and wiped it all over my body. Then I returned to her in that state. Shocked to see me like that, the woman ordered that I be removed from her home. I left and immediately took a shower. That very night I saw a dream; in it, it was said to me, ‘You have done that which no one else has ever done. I will make your smell good and pure in this world and in the Hereafter.’ When I woke up, the smell of perfume was emanating from my body, and it has continued to emanate from my body until this very moment.”

World is running to meet its end swiftly
Khalid bin `Umar Al-`Adawi reported: `Utbah bin Ghazwan, the governor of Basrah, delivered a Khutbah. He praised Allah, glorified Him, then said: "Amma b`adu, verily, the world has been given the news of its end and is running to meet its end swiftly. Nothing is left out of it but a very little amount. Similar to the remainder in a dish whose owner is collecting it to drink; and you are going to move to an abode which knows no end, and you should proceed there with the good before you, for we have been informed (by the Prophet (PBUH)) that a stone would be thrown at one side of the Hell and it would travel down for seventy years but would not reach its bottom. By Allah, it will be filled (with men and jinn). Do you find it strange? We have been informed (i.e., by the Prophet (PBUH)) that the distance between two shutters of the gate of Jannah is forty years (distance). And a day would come when it would be fully packed; I was the seventh amongst the seven who had been with Messenger of Allah (PBUH), and we had nothing to eat but the leaves of the tree until the sides of our mouth were injured. We found a sheet which we tore into two and divided between myself and Sa`d bin Malik. I made the lower garment with half of it and so did Sa`d. Today, there is none amongst us who has not become the governor of a city, and I seek refuge with Allah that I should consider myself great while I am insignificant to Allah.''

What is zuhd (asceticism)?
ISLAM Q N A
Question
What is zuhd (asceticism)? Does it mean wearing scruffy clothing, fasting constantly, and keeping away from society, or something else?.
Answer
Praise be to Allaah.
Zuhd does not mean wearing scruffy clothing, withdrawing from people and keeping away from society, or fasting constantly. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the leader of all zaahids (ascetics) but he would wear new clothes; adorn himself to meet delegations, for Jumu’ah and for Eid; mix with people and call them to do good and teach them about their religion; and he forbade his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) to fast constantly. Rather zuhd means shunning that which is haraam and that which Allaah hates; avoiding shows of luxury and overindulging in worldly pleasures; focusing on doing acts of worship; and making the best preparation for the Hereafter. The best explanation of that is the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions. End quote.

A small description of Hasan al Basri (RA)
Hasan al Basri (RA), one of the most pious thaabieen was described by some as follows, "By Allah! If he arrived, it was as if he had returned from a beloved's burial, and if he withdraw it was as if the fire was above his head. When he sat, it was as if he was a convict waiting for his head to be toppled. In the morning it was as if he had arrived from his Afterlife, and in the evening it was as if sickness had worn him away".

Twelve Martyrs in Jannah
Anas (RadiyAllah anhu) reported that a women once came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said:
"I had a dream that I was taken out of Al- Madinah and into Jannah. I heard a great noise that caused Jannah to shake. I looked around (for its cause), and saw so-and-so , and so-and-so , and so-and-so (thus naming twelve men that Allah's Messenger(peace be upon him) had sent out on an expedition). They were brought forth, wearing dirty clothes, and blood was pouring from their necks. They were then submerged into al-Baydakh (the greatness) river, and came out of it with their faces shining like a full moon. They were offered dates on a golden tray. They ate as much as they wished , and I ate with them."
A few days later, a forerunner came back from the expedition and informed the prophet(peace be upon him) that the twelve men were killed. The prophet (peace be upon him) then summoned the woman and commanded her to repeat her dream, which she did, naming the twelve men that were killed.
Recorded by Ahmed, Ibn Hibban, and others. Verified to be authentic by al- Albani (Sahihu mawarid iz- Zam'an no. 1513).
